Guidelines for abstract submission

All authors wishing to present papers at SBE21 Heritage Conference are required to submit an abstract using the online submission system. Only abstracts submitted through the online submission system will be considered for the conference.

Abstracts must be written in English and not exceed 500 words (excluding affiliation and bibliography). Submission and subsequent evaluation will be anonymous following a double-blind peer review. Please do not insert any information that could reveal the identity of the author(s).

The abstract should briefly highlight the major points covered by your work and describe concisely its content and scope while reviewing its material in an abbreviated form. The abstract must be to the point and easy to read and cover all the relevant points and results of your research / project. Abstracts will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

• Interest to conference audience
• Novelty of the study
• Appropriateness of methodology
• Relevance of the conclusions

TOPICS

Proposals must cover one of the following topics:

1. Policies, programs regulations and standards that are relevant to sustainability and climate change issues for historic buildings and neighbourhoods
2. Design, construction and operation of solutions adapted to historic buildings and regional and local climate change resilience
3. Approaches to preserve and enhance cultural landscapes towards a low-carbon built environment
4. Renovating historic buildings towards zero energy
5. Renewable energy integration in historic buildings, conservation areas and cultural landscapes
6. Embodied energy and carbon and the use of LCA in the renovation of historic buildings
7. Use of design support methods, tools and certification in the energy retrofit of historic buildings
8. Innovation in materials, products, and systems for a low-carbon built heritage with particular attention to hygrothermal performance
9. Performance upgrading and re-use of buildings and building stocks for a low-carbon built heritage.
10. In-depth analysis of traditional practices for their adaptation to a low-carbon built heritage, including modelling, monitoring and laboratory testing of materials, construction and design
11. Training and education to promote adoption of sustainable approaches in the built heritage.
12. Best practice examples on all the above themes

PAPER SUBMISSION AND REVIEW PROCESS

During the abstract submission process, you will be asked to provide the following information:

• Selected topic
• Title of the contribution
• Names and affiliation of the author(s)
• E-mail address of the corresponding author(s)
• Keywords (between 3 and 5)
• Selection of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) that are applicable to the research – learn more

The Scientific Committee will ensure the quality and geographic coverage of the contributions and the inclusion of a wide variety of topics, formats, and speakers in the conference.

During the submission process, contributors will be asked to choose a topic. The Scientific Committee reserves the right to assign the contribution to a different topic. Authors will be informed in writing in case of any changes.

Decision for oral or poster presentation will be made after the review of the full paper. Only the authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to submit a full paper.

After completion of the abstract submission, you will be given an identification code. Please keep this code for the submission of the full paper and final registration.

CONSENT TO PUBLISH

By submitting an abstract you give consent to the publication of such abstract on the conference materials, including but not limited to, the conference website, conference handbook, email promotions, etc.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION

At least one author per each accepted paper is required to register and attend the conference on a relevant day and pay the corresponding fee in order to ensure their work is included in the SBE21 Heritage Conference programme.
